The All Progressives Congress, APC, has won 20 out of the 23 local government areas in the Rivers State council elections conducted on Saturday.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, announced the results in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
According to the electoral body, candidates of the APC secured victory in both chairmanship and councillorship elections across the majority of local councils.

The commission confirmed that the APC candidates are loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Some of the local government areas won by the APC include Ahoada East with 84,125 votes, Akuku Toru with 63,593 votes, Andoni with 126,181 votes, Asari Toru with 56,383 votes, Bonny with 13,543 votes, Degema with 61,536 votes, and Etche with 100,649 votes.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, secured victories in Obio/Akpor and Onelga local government areas, where it polled 328,888 votes and 51,051 votes, respectively.
The electoral body further confirmed that the PDP also won a third council area, bringing its total tally to three.
Announcing the results, an RSIEC official stated, “The elections were conducted across the 23 local government areas, and results have been duly collated and declared.”
The elections mark a significant political contest in Rivers State as parties prepare for broader contests ahead of the 2027 general elections.
