The Councillor representing Evwreni Ward 8 in the Ughelli North Legislative Arm, Delta State, Obukoadata Aghoghofia, has died after collapsing during a football match in his community.
The incident occurred during a local football competition held at Evwreni, where the councillor was actively participating before he suddenly slumped and passed away.
His death marks the third among serving councillors in Delta State within a span of nine months and one week.
Two of the deceased were from Ughelli North while the third was from Isoko South.

The chairman of Ughelli North local government council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, expressed grief over the sudden loss.
He shared an emotional tribute on Facebook, stating: “I am not one given to emotional fits, but your sudden departure just three hours after we sat in my office, shared laughter and joked together, is a tragedy too painful to bear.”
He described the late councillor as “an accomplished legislator whose unwavering dedication to public service and commitment to the development of his ward left an indelible mark on the current 8th Assembly.”
Continuing, Egbo wrote, “You may have gone the way of all mortals, Hon. Obukoadata Aghoghofia, but that moment of joy we shared remains a sad reminder of how fleeting and ephemeral life truly is.”
The chairman added, “He served with distinction, and until his death, he was actively involved in legislative duties. His sudden departure is a heavy blow to us all.”
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Ughelli North Local Government Area, I mourn the loss of a brother, a friend, and an exceptional politician. His absence will be deeply felt,” Egbo concluded.
Just two months prior, another councillor, Hon. Agent Friday Ohwoevworuemu of Uwheru Ward 16 in Ughelli North, died after a brief illness on 23 April 2025.
The third councillor, whose name was not mentioned in the statement, hailed from Emede Ward 5 in Isoko South and also passed away within the same period.
The cause of Aghoghofia’s sudden collapse during the game has not been officially disclosed, though investigations are expected to follow.
Residents of Evwreni community and colleagues within the council have expressed shock over the news, describing the atmosphere in the area as one of mourning and disbelief.
