The Department of State Services, DSS, has rearrested a wanted Ansaru terrorist, Abdulazeez Obadaki, who escaped during the 2022 attack on Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja.
Obadaki was among the 879 inmates who fled the facility after a coordinated assault linked to Islamic State-affiliated militants.
He is alleged to have masterminded several violent incidents, including attacks on banks in Uromi, Edo State, and the fatal shooting at Deeper Life College in Okene, Kogi State.
A security source confirmed the development on Friday but declined to provide further details about the operation that led to his capture.

The rearrest comes nearly three months after the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, announced the arrest of two individuals described as leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group.
Ribadu had stated at the time that security agencies were intensifying efforts to track remaining fugitives from the Kuje jailbreak.
Obadaki’s escape in 2022 had drawn widespread concern due to his alleged role in multiple violent attacks across different states.
Authorities have not disclosed where the suspect was rearrested or whether additional arrests were made during the operation.
The DSS is expected to transfer Obadaki to the appropriate authorities for further interrogation and prosecution.
