The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun Command, has cautioned motorists to exercise restraint and reduce speed during the ember months in order to minimise avoidable road crashes.
FRSC Commander in charge of the Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway, Nasir Mohammed, gave the warning on Monday in Ota during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Mohammed described speed as attractive but deadly. “Speed is sweet, but it kills faster than any deadly disease,” he said, urging motorists to desist from excessive speeding that often leads to disaster.
He advised road users to comply with road signs and observe average speed limits to reduce accidents.

“We urge motorists to obey road signs and adhere to average speed limit to prevent avoidable crashes during the ember months,” he stated.
Mohammed further warned drivers against night journeys, reckless driving, and wrongful overtaking, which he said were among the major causes of fatal accidents.
“We also strongly advise against night travel, reckless driving and wrongful overtaking,” he said.
The FRSC commander stressed that motorists must avoid drunk-driving, noting that alcohol impairs judgement and increases the likelihood of accidents.
“Desist from drunk-driving as this could affect your sense of reasoning and result in accidents,” he cautioned.
He reiterated the commitment of the FRSC to sustain aggressive public enlightenment campaigns and enhanced patrols to educate motorists on the dangers of violating traffic regulations.
“The Corps will continue to embark on aggressive public enlightenment and patrols to sensitise the public on the dangers of flouting traffic rules and regulations,” Mohammed said.
The ember months, covering September to December, are often associated with increased travel, prompting the FRSC to intensify awareness campaigns to ensure road safety nationwide.
