The Fulani community in Riyom local government area of Plateau State has called for an immediate end to alleged unprovoked attacks on herders by natives in the area.
The demand was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary of the Fulani community in Riyom, Abdullahi Yusuf, who urged authorities to intervene before the situation degenerates into further violence.
Yusuf, in the statement titled “Another Attack on Fulani Herders in Riyom,” said a Fulani herdsman was attacked and injured by suspected Berom youths, who also killed one cow and wounded several others.
“The Fulani community in Riyom Local Government Area wishes to draw the attention of the public to yet another unprovoked attack on our people,” Yusuf said.

He explained that at about 4 p.m. on Thursday,.Octobern2, 2025, suspected Berom youths attacked a Fulani herder, Aliyu Sale Shehu, around Rim community in Rim Ward, Riyom LGA, leaving him with gunshot injuries.
“In the same incident, one cow was killed and eight others sustained gunshot wounds,” Yusuf added.
According to him, the attack was one of several unprovoked assaults on Fulani herders in Riyom, with their cattle and sources of livelihood continuously targeted.
“They will attack our people mercilessly, and if some of the affected herders decide to fight back, they will be tagged bandits and aggressors,” the statement read.
He lamented that there had been no response from the government or community leaders following Thursday’s attack, saying that the silence had emboldened the attackers and worsened the plight of innocent herders.
“Since the Thursday attack on Sale, there has been no statement, no action, and no justice from the government or community leaders,” Yusuf said.
“The silence only emboldens the attackers and increases the suffering of innocent Fulani herders.”
The Fulani community urged security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further violence and ensure justice for the victims.
“We demand urgent intervention from security agencies and call on the Plateau State Government to speak up and act before these unprovoked hostilities push the area into further crisis,” Yusuf stated.
“The Fulani are equal citizens of Riyom and Plateau State, and our lives and properties must be protected.
“Enough is enough,” he concluded.
