Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has warned against actions that could provoke armed groups in Katsina State following a peace deal reached with residents of Faskari local government area.
The warning came after a peace meeting held on Sunday in Faskari between residents, traditional leaders, and a wanted bandit leader, Ado Alero, alongside dozens of armed herders.
Another notorious bandit commander, Isiya Kwashen Garwa, earlier declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters, also reportedly accepted dialogue in Katsina State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed in a post on X that Garwa appeared in Hayin Gada community, Faskari, presenting himself as a supporter of peace talks.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Gumi said any attempt to attack the armed groups could reignite violence in the region.
“Some people who don’t want peace will provoke them again by attacking them,” the cleric wrote.
He added, “It’s very important to educate them that they are used by capitalising on their ignorance and zeal to vengeance.”
Gumi has consistently advocated dialogue with armed groups, arguing that negotiations can reduce bloodshed and restore calm in rural communities.
The cleric’s statement follows growing concerns about insecurity in Katsina, which has remained a flashpoint of violent attacks by armed groups in recent years.
Residents of Faskari said the peace deal was aimed at ending hostilities, allowing farmers to return to their fields, and reducing further loss of lives and property.
