The Kwara State Police Command has refuted a viral social media report alleging that a female police officer serving in the state was kidnapped and murdered.
In the report, it was claimed that a female police inspector serving as a prosecutor at an unspecified division had been abducted and later found dead in the Oloje area of Ilorin.
The command, however, described the story as entirely false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the command found the viral report “entirely false and deeply distressing.” She warned members of the public against circulating unverified information capable of causing public panic.

“The command wishes to state unequivocally that this report is not only false but also misleading, with the intent to cause panic in the state,” SP Ejire-Adeyemi said.
She further clarified that there was no record of any female police officer being declared missing, abducted, or killed in any division within Kwara State.
“Members of the public are hereby advised to disregard this misleading information as there is no report of any female police officer missing or abducted in any division in the state,” she added.
The police spokesperson also dismissed claims in the viral post that the officer served at a division called Ogidi, stating that no such police division exists in Kwara State.
“There is no police division known as Ogidi in Kwara State as mentioned in the viral posts. This is a deliberate attempt to mislead unsuspecting members of the public,” she said.
SP Ejire-Adeyemi assured residents that the command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Adekunbi Ojo, remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property and maintaining peace across the state.
“The Command is cooperating fully with other security agencies to ensure safety across the state. We urge the public and media outlets to refrain from sharing unverified or sensationalised information that may cause unnecessary panic or damage the reputation of the state,” she stated.
She also urged residents to rely only on credible sources for police-related information.
“We encourage members of the public to obtain accurate information through our official communication channels,” she said.
According to her, the official social media handles of the command include X (formerly Twitter) via @kwara_ppro, Facebook through the Kwara State Police Command page, and the Command’s WhatsApp Channel.
The spokesperson emphasised that the police would continue to uphold transparency in their operations and ensure public confidence through effective communication and professional conduct.
She concluded by warning against the spread of fake news, noting that anyone found responsible for fabricating or disseminating false reports could face prosecution under the law.
