Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has alleged that his son was bullied by his former record label boss, Naira Marley.

Aloba spoke during an interview with Sunday Scoop, where he dismissed Marley’s recent claims that he had no role in Mohbad’s struggles while alive.

Naira Marley had earlier stated in a separate interview that his intention was only to guide the late singer, particularly after discovering that he was experimenting with illicit substances.

However, Mohbad’s father maintained that the accounts he heard and witnessed indicated otherwise.

He said he personally visited Marley to address some issues his son had raised before his death.

According to him, what he observed during the visit suggested his son had endured mistreatment at the hands of his label boss and his associates.

Aloba said, “When we went to see him to apologise, he wasn’t even speaking respectfully. People assume I went there to collect money, but life is beyond just what I want to eat.”

He further claimed that one of Marley’s close associates confided in him, alleging that the Marlian Music chief physically assaulted Mohbad.

On financial concerns, Aloba confirmed that his late son at times used unfamiliar accounts for monetary transactions, a situation that had also drawn Marley’s attention.

He explained that he too had noticed this irregularity, as some of the funds Mohbad sent to him did not come directly from the singer’s personal account.

“I warned him that anything he wanted to give me should come from his own account,” Aloba said, stressing that his awareness of the matter was limited to those instances.

The father of the deceased artiste insisted that these issues highlighted the pressures Mohbad faced in his career before his untimely passing.

The renewed claims have reignited public interest in the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death, which continues to draw widespread reactions across the Nigerian entertainment industry.
