Nigerian rapper Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has called on the Lagos State Police Command to reopen the investigation into the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
The artist made the demand in a video broadcast via his YouTube channel on Tuesday while giving his account of events relating to the controversial death of the late singer.
Naira Marley maintained that he was innocent of any involvement in Mohbad’s death and insisted that the police should re-arrest him, his associate Samsan Balogun, also known as Samlarry, and others previously accused.
He urged the authorities to ensure that a trustworthy officer was assigned to handle the case to guarantee transparency in the renewed investigation.

“I came back to Nigeria to support the police because I can see fingers pointing our ways. So I had to come back so that they can actually have nothing to do with it and check whoever so that he can get justice,” he said.
“I was in Panti for two months. After I came out from Panti, I was fighting for my passport, they held my passport. I was like, it’s okay to question me [over Mohbad’s death], but there’s no reason to detain me. I haven’t seen him for over a year. But it’s okay. There was a conspiracy and gang-up to keep me there,” he added.
He alleged that a leaked group chat revealed discussions mentioning the name of the officer in charge of the case in Panti, as well as conversations about a judge.
“If you ask me, I will tell the police to arrest everybody again. Put an officer we can trust in charge,” he stated.
Naira Marley also disclosed that he had reached an agreement with Mohbad’s lawyer to give the late singer’s royalties to whichever member of his family the court decides should manage his estate.
Mohbad died on September 12,n2023 under controversial circumstances, sparking nationwide protests and calls for a thorough investigation into the cause of his death.
Following the initial allegations, Naira Marley and Samlarry were arrested and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for two months in 2023 before being released after meeting their bail conditions.
Mohbad’s childhood friend, Owodunni Ibrahim, also known as Prime Boy, was arrested in connection with the case but later granted bail.
In July 2025, Prime Boy told self-styled activist VeryDarkMan in an interview that he never fought Mohbad nor inflicted injuries on him during their last joint outing at the D’General Bitters show in Ikorodu on 10 September 2023.
Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who reportedly administered the injection that allegedly led to Mohbad’s death, was also arrested by the police.
The Lagos State Coroner’s Court later heard testimony from two independent pathologists who conducted separate autopsies.
They concluded that the advanced state of decomposition of Mohbad’s body made it impossible to determine a definitive cause of death.
Magistrate C.A. Shotobi noted that the death was not linked to evidence of foul play but was associated with medical negligence.
The court subsequently directed the Director of Public Prosecutions to prosecute the nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe.
