A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has died after she was knocked down and run over by an operational patrol vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja.
The incident occurred during what officials described as a coordinated show-of-force drill conducted by the corps in the Federal Capital Territory.
Confirming the development on Saturday, the corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, said the death was the result of a tragic accident during the exercise.
“It is a very sad and unfortunate incident. We have lost her,” Babawale said.

According to him, the officer was participating in the drill when the patrol vehicle struck her while manoeuvring.
Footage circulating on social media captured the moment the vehicle made a turn and hit the officer, knocking her to the ground before running over her.
The vehicle was seen coming to a halt shortly after the impact as colleagues and bystanders rushed towards the scene.
Witnesses in the footage were observed attempting to lift the vehicle in order to pull the officer from underneath it.
Emergency responders later arrived and evacuated her to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
Despite efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead, while the corps said further details surrounding the incident would be communicated as necessary.
