The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of two individuals involved in separate firearm-related incidents in Abeokuta, the state capital, as part of its ongoing efforts to curb cultism and violent crimes.
On June 27, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, Unit acted on credible intelligence regarding a suspected meeting of the Eiye Confraternity at the Saje area of Car Wash, Abeokuta.
According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, officers swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested one suspect, identified as Ismail Afolabi, who was attempting to flee.
Afolabi was found in possession of a cross-body bag containing a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun, loaded with live ammunition.

The firearm was recovered and secured by the operatives.
“Preliminary investigations have commenced, while efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices,” CSP Odutola stated.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to eradicating cult-related violence.”
In a separate incident, the Police Command on 28 June 2025 arrested another suspect, Oluwatobiloba Kehinde, following a distress call received from a resident of the Agbena area via Ojere, Abeokuta.
The complainant alleged that on June 27 at about 6:00 p.m., Kehinde confronted him on his way from a football field, demanding money and threatening to harm him if he refused.
Soon after, Kehinde was reportedly joined by other gang members who arrived on a motorcycle and physically assaulted the complainant.
The victim managed to escape and fled to his family house.
Shockingly, the suspect later traced the complainant to his residence, allegedly armed with a locally made pistol, and continued issuing threats to shoot him.
Police operatives responded swiftly to the report and apprehended Kehinde, recovering the firearm used in the threat.
The weapon is now in police custody.
CSP Odutola confirmed that preliminary investigations have commenced in both cases and assured the public that further updates would be provided as the investigations progress.
