President Bola Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of renewed efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare.
Acording to the statement, the President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa, who has been relieved of his duties.
Other appointments include Major General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff and Air Marshal S. K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas has also been named Chief of Naval Staff.

Dare added that the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General E. A. P. Undiendeye, will retain his position, continuing to oversee military intelligence operations.
The presidential aide stated that all appointments take immediate effect, as the new Service Chiefs are expected to resume their duties without delay.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their service, describing their contributions as “patriotic and dedicated.”
“The President commends the outgoing Service Chiefs for their sacrifice and leadership in the service of the nation,” the statement read.
“He urges the new appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them.”
Dare noted that the President expects the new military leadership to prioritise professionalism, vigilance, and unity in carrying out their duties.
“The President calls on the new Chiefs to work closely with all security agencies to ensure peace and stability across the country,” the statement added.
The reshuffle marks the latest in a series of measures introduced by the Tinubu administration to enhance coordination among the Armed Forces and improve national security outcomes.
All newly appointed Service Chiefs are expected to undergo formal decoration and induction by the Ministry of Defence in the coming days.
