A three-storey building under construction collapsed late Friday night in the Alagomeji area of Yaba, Lagos, leaving several persons feared trapped under the rubble.
The incident occurred at No. 333 Borno Way, drawing immediate attention from emergency responders who rushed to the scene to begin rescue operations.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, early Saturday morning.

“A coordinated search-and-rescue operation was immediately activated at the site, with relevant agencies mobilised to ensure swift response,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
The response team at the scene includes officials of LASEMA’s Onipanu Rescue Unit, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LABSCA, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Area C Command, and the Rapid Response Squad, RRS.
Although the cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, officials confirmed that investigations have commenced to establish whether structural defects, regulatory breaches, or other factors contributed to the disaster.
So far, three adult male victims have been rescued alive. According to emergency officials, they were stabilised at the site by LASAMBUS medics before being transported to Harvey Road General Hospital, Yaba, for further medical attention.
A LASEMA responder at the scene said: “We are working tirelessly to locate and rescue others who may still be trapped under the debris. Heavy-duty equipment has been deployed to aid the operation.”
The Lagos State Police Command also confirmed the presence of its operatives at the site, saying that measures have been taken to secure the area and prevent unauthorised access during the rescue exercise.
This collapse comes barely two months after a similar three-storey building caved in on Lagos Island on July 3, leaving several occupants trapped and raising fresh concerns over building safety standards in the state.
